Purpose
This website has been created for the Learning Through Technology (Educ 150) course offered at Marist College. On this website, I am integrating each unit from the course to express my own understanding of each of the ideas we discuss in class. I plan to refer back to this website during and after the completion of this course as a tool. I am also sharing my knowledge with the general public outside of Educ 150 for those who are interested in learning more about the various components of technology in education.
The Focus: 21st Century Skills and Technology Literacy
The 21st Century is requiring students to become skillful in new ways. This course emphasizes the importance of being knowledgeable about these new ideas, resources, and abilities. Such concepts include Professional Learning Communities, crowd sourcing, online ethical decision-making, copyright, and more. In a very important way, technology has its own set of literacy. People should be aware of how to properly use and understand technology. This includes the coding and programming aspect of technology, as well as interpreting the true meanings of the content users see.
Essential Questions of the Course:
1. How can we, as future educators, effectively utilize technology in the classroom?
2. How can we use technology ethically and legally?
3. How can we use technology to promote lifelong learners of the 21st Century?
